The toolbox was originally conceived as the embryo of a collection of support material for Portuguese language translators. Given the large amount of disorganized information available, the project was developed to unite all the information, resources and data on the Latin American regional market.

The databases developed by Bireme cover health virtual libraries from different Latin American countries and from Spain, and are an excellent corpora created by native speakers of Portuguese and Spanish languages, extremely useful for validating terms related to the life sciences.
